Ashley Wood/Coal Shaker Grate (Right Side). The shaker grate is an important part of your unit. Air passes through the bottom of the grate to the base of the fire. Rotating the handle position will agitate the coals, allowing ash to drop and air to reach the fire. It is important to inspect the grates periodically. If you notice that the grates are warping orshow signs of deterioration, they should be replaced!
